Wiping Away Snow Scene

In this scene the rig is wiping snow off the large objects he's found in the middle of the blizzard.
Below you can see the camera positioning for the scene.

Windy Walking Scene

In this scene the rig is walking against strong winds so I wanted him to struggle when walking.

Introducing The Rig

After I had finished the main layout of my scene I brought the Morpheus rig in to begin positioning it in such a way that I could start animating.

I started using cameras alongside the perspective view in Maya so that I could use them side by side, modelling one while seeing what it would look like in the camera view.

When I had finished some animating I began looking at h#ow to add a skin texture to my rig.
Someone also doing this project created a tutorial showing the process of doing so to the morpheus rig and is what I used to do so.

Texturing

When I was happy with the models I'd done I moved on to how I wanted them to be textured. This involved UV mapping them of which I had great difficulty doing but I am happy with how the final products came out.

Fish Fingers Box

With the Fish Fingers box I used Google Image search to find an example and then used Photoshop to edit it around the UV snapshot of the box I had taken,
Below you can see the box against the checker pattern I used to line it up and below that the original Image.

Ice Cream Tub

For the ice cream tub I decided to use a Ben and Jerry's kind of packaging but since the fish fingers box had been a real one I wanted to look for something slightly more tongue in cheek so I found one with a joke from 'The Goonies' on it as opposed to a real flavour.

Custard Box

I still wanted to stick with the old style of custard box that I'd thought about in my planning stages so that's what I ended up with.

Steak

With the steak, I began trying out my original, cartoony steak ideas but soon realised that I didn't think it would fit in with the scene, so I began by remodelling it and looking into making it look more realistic. I'm really happy with how the steak ended up when all was done.

(Link for the Image is no longer available to my knowledge.)

Snow

The Snow I made on this scene is one of my favorite things due to how happy I am with the effect that was used.
When making this I used bump mapping with a Fractal texture that was already found on Maya, I changed it's base colour to white and with some fiddling of how intense to make it I found a sweet spot where the ground looked ok.

Scene without Rendering

Scene with Rendering

With the snow that covered the items, I remodelled it as I wanted it look look more like snow had been gathering on it rather than just being a snowy version of the item.

Adding in floor

I started by adding the planes to the scene this time.
I wanted to let the objects slightly clip through it as to give the impression of being surrounded by snow but I may play with the floor later and make it seem more sloped.

I also started using the soft modification tool on the plane to help me begin the construction of my snow dunes.

I also have ended up smoothing the steak and opting for a realistic steak texture when the time comes as opposed to the cartoonistic one.

I've also made some snow to sit on top of the objects for when the rig has cleared the snow from them.

Starting on Maya

I began in Maya by making three basic objects, a cylinder which would become the ice cream tub, a large rectangular box which will be the fish fingers box and a smaller flat rectangle which I plan on manipulating into the steak.

I started off with the Ice Cream tub by adding edge loops round one end end extruding out slightly to create the lid and then selecting the sides to wided one end slightly.

I added edge loops all over the flat box so that I could mould the steak into the shape I wanted.
I was pleased with how the shape was beginning to take shape so quickly.

This is what I have produced of my objects so far. I plan on getting the planes which will act as the floor in as soon as possible.

Layout

This shows where on the layout the animation will take place. Most of the background will be snowy wastelands of hills and mountains.
The rig will wake up, walk to the objects and then remain there interacting with them until he turns around and is taken by the giant hand.

This sketch shows where I want the objects to be laid out when the rig finds and removes the snow from them.
with the Fish Fingers box as the largest and main on in the middle, the custard box poking out from behind and the smaller ice cream tub and steak just in front.

Concepts

After some thought I've decided that I'm going to include a tub of ice cream, a box of custard and a steak in the scene, just so that there isn't just one object for the rig to find.

Ice Cream

I drew a simple idea of what I had in my head as a base for my research.
I wanted a small tub with a rounded top and bottom. I thought this would be a good thing to add considering that 2 of the 4 objects are normal boxes.

Fish Finger Boxes

Again, Just a basic design of what I had an idea of and something to base what I'm looking for on.

There are very few designs for fish finger boxes so depending on time I will either design my own, or find an existing design (birdeye etc) and use that.

Steak

For the steak design I wanted to try and keep the cartoony "Loony Tunes" look about them. I've always found this design interesting and have wanted an excuse to use it in any way I could.
Although, depending on how I think this looks when it comes to modelling the objects I may opt for a more realistic looking one

Custard Box

A very simple design but since a custard box isn't something I see regularly I improvised with the packaging.
upon researching designs I found that there are only one or two proper designs for such a thing so I'm going look look for an old fashioned, subtle look for it.
